Personal Statement

Hello my name is Isaac Schwab, I am 14 years old. I am currently in grade 9 at Nanaimo District Secondary School, in Nanaimo, BC.  this school is a Hockey Canada Skills Academy.  At school I have 2 hours a week with a personal trainer, I have 2 hours a week power skating, and 1 hour working on stick handling, and shooting.   I am 5 ‘11” inches tall, and I am a versatile forward hockey player that plays both center, wing, and can play defense. I have a 3.6 GPA. I have been one of the top point producers on my team for the last three years. Last year, I played on a team that had one overage player, and most of the team was second year players, it was my rookie season. I ended the year being third in points, first in assists, and third in goals. But more important to me was my plus/  minus category I lead my team as the player with the highest plus rating. I was the only center on my team to win the most face-offs. I pride myself in being a two way player who thinks the game. I also pride myself in being a team first player.

Three things that are very important to me are my: faith, family, and friends. The decisions I make in life and who I am comes from a belief that I am here for a reason. That I have a purpose and so do others around me. My family means a lot to me. My friends are very important to me. I have learned that you never play the game of hockey for yourself; you play for your teammates, family and the pride of the local culture, and your community. At 14, I am moving from a small community (Hazelton, BC) to a larger center (Nanaimo, BC),  I am leaving a high school of 200 for a high school of 1400. I am leaving my friends to be able to pursue my academic and hockey goals.  Between training , practices , and homework I find time to talk to my family and friends.

My favorite quote is “Hard work beats talent when talent stops working”, there are players who score more goals then me, there are players that can hit harder than me, but what I bring is my best, a cooperative team spirit. I hold my team mates accountable , and I give my best at whatever I do, That is  what I bring to any team that I play for , that’s what I hope to bring to your College/ University.
