My name is Benjamin Sheard. I have been playing golf for about seven years but seriously for three years now. I remember when my next-door neighbor, and eighty year-old former navy seal, first introduced me to golf. While he was teaching me how to swing, I put a Titleist right though his shed window. Ever since then, I fell in love with the game of golf and have always had a passion for it. Looking back on that first lesson, I am glad I decided to go over and give it a chance because that was one of the best decisions I ever made.
Golf is about more than just scores and trophies. It teaches you some of the most valuable things many people don't always learn. Over the years I have learned how to manage my emotions and how to be a better man overall.
I work extremely hard and always have a positive attitude. That being said, I also have a serious work ethic at school, and my grades show that. I take honors classes to challenge myself in a way where I am not always comfortable, but because I am committed to continuous improvement, I push myself.
My GPA is a 3.8, and I think part of that is because of the discipline golf has taught me. In my opinion, in order to get to be the best I can, I must be teachable. I am very coachable and always listen to instruction very well. Everyday I strive to improve not only my golf game, but my character also. I will do whatever it takes to get better at golf and to succeed at life and academics.
A goal that I have had for a long time is to play collegiate golf. In order to put myself where I am today, I needed to work hard. I hope to develop both my golf game and academics so that I can complete a four-year degree at the right school. I am proud of the effort and time I have put in thus far and look to stay on this path for the upcoming years. I know that I have the discipline and can put in time to do whatever needs to be done. Thank you for your time and God bless.
