Personal Statement

My dream is to play Division I college golf. I am the ultimate competitor, and no matter what situation, I do everything in my power to win.
I grew up playing every sport including football, basketball, lacrosse, high jump, and ski racing.  In high jump, I was the 2010 State and Regional champion for my age division; in doing so, I qualified for Nationals.  I continued to pursue basketball until my freshman year of high school, when I turned my focus completely to golf.  I do continue to ski race and will be the captain of my high school team this winter.

My golf game has steadily improved from freshman year. I have worked with my swing coach, Scott Watkins, building my game from the ground up, effectually growing solid fundamentals in all facets of the game. Through this work and my physical growth  (both natural and from working out), I have developed a powerful and explosive swing, while keeping it very neutral, allowing me to hit a variety of shots.  The strengths of my game are in my length, touch, and the ability to creatively visualize my shots.

Some things I am working on are: consistency, mental mindset and focus. For me, these things go hand-in-hand.  The sharper my mental game, the less disparity I see in my shots. I have been working very hard this summer on my mental game, and beginning to pay off.  My last ten tournament rounds combine for (-1): (72,72,69,74,71,72, 72, 73, 71,72) as of September 2, 2015.

  • 9/01/15 to 9/03/15
  • 71-72-76-219. T-22. Yardage: 7012; Field 108. Disappointing final day. In exception of three holes, I played great golf the whole tournament.
  • Camp/Event
  • AJGA at Centennial
  • 8/18/15 to 8/20/15
  • 72-73-145 T-20. I didn't play my best golf, but I had a great experience and finished well.
  • Camp/Event
  • Klamath Basin Junior
  • 7/15/15 to 7/16/15
  • 72-72-144 E, 2nd place. The first day at the Running Y I recovered from making triple on hole 6 and finished eagle-birdieon 17,18 to shoot even. The next day at Reames I eagled the 4th hole putting me at -2 on the tournament and -5 in my last 6 holes played. The 72 at Reames passed by quite a few players who had shot under par the day before, as the course was playing much harder due to strong winds and severe greens.

Training

  • Power Training
  • 4 years
  • Each semester I choose to make one of my elective classes weight training, so I can workout during school. I find this to be beneficial both to my golf in the long term and every day in school.
