My name is Josh Tasney, and I'm heading into my senior year at Pickerington High School North in Pickerington, Ohio. I am 18 years old and have been brought up in a strong Christian faith based family. I am the oldest of 6 children and very close with all my brothers and sisters. I love to help them with there own golf experiences, as well as just wrestling around with my little brothers. They are not just my family, but they are my friends and the ones that I spend most of my time. I'm also very close with my mom and dad. They're my role models and support me in all of my goals and ambitions, along with my golf game.
My dad got me involved in golf when I was 10 years old. He was a former golf professional, but never pushed the game on any of s. He wanted us to choose our own activities. My parents originally got me and my sisters involved in martial arts, because they didn't know what sport would best fit us. They knew the conditioning, flexability, and confidence we would gain would help us in any of our future endeavors. I took martial arts for almost 10 years and achieved my 2nd degree black belt in both Tang Soo Do and Taekwondo. I won a number of local, state, national, and international championships in martial arts, but knew I wanted something different. After earning my 2nd black belt I told my dad that I would like to go hit golf balls sometime. He said he would only agree to it if I learned how to do it properly. I had a lot of fun going to local golf camps and small tournaments while he was teaching us. Once I started playing and competing, I knew this was the game for me. I enjoy playing a sport where the results are fully dependent on my own efforts, which probably comes from my martial arts background.
Over the past couple of years living in Ohio, I have devoted my time solely to golf so that my game can reach its maximum potential. I started my Ohio competitions in the local Columbus Municipal Jr Golf Tour for 3 years, where I won player of the year all 3 years. There were quite a few good local players on the tour that I have played against in high school and have gone on to play college golf. Last summer was my first year of not playing in the Columbus Jr Tour to focus on some larger events. I played on the Junior Scoreboard recognized COGA Tour where I finished in 5th place for the year. I didn't even participate in the final event or I could have possibly finished higher. A number of college coaches follow players on this tour including myself which was pretty cool. I also participated in my first US Open Local Qualifier at Rattlesnake Ridge. I didn't play as well as I wanted, but finished in the middle of the field as the youngest competitor there.
In 2014 as a freshman at Reynoldsburg High School, I made first team all conference and freshman golfer of the year. I was the first freshman in the history of the high school to receive those honors. In the summer of 2015, my parents moved us into a home in Pickerington, Ohio where I attended my new high school (Pickerington North). We had one of the best teams in central Ohio and I was 3rd man on the team as a sophomore, which is pretty good considering the 2 guys in front of me just signed with Kent State University and University of Findlay on golf scholarships. I had some real good highlights which you can see under my events tab. My goals are extremely high, as I have dreams of playing golf at the tour level one day. If I am unable to attain this lofty goal, I would love to use my degree to enter the golf profession in another capacity.
I am looking forward to my upcoming senior season in searching for the right college that will meet my expectations, as well as me meeting theirs. I am also looking forward to making lifetime relationships with my future college coach, teammates, and classmates. I appreciate you possibly considering me for your 2018 recruiting class. Please review my recent highlights and keep up with my senior event schedule.
