My name is Nick Seitz and I attend Carroll High School in Dayton, Ohio. I will graduate in 2013 and currently hold a 4.0 (4.57 weighted) GPA. I have taken nine honors courses and three AP courses in my first three years in high school, with another honors course and four more AP courses planned for my senior year. I am diligent in my academics and this determination transcends into my golf game.
As a junior, I am a three year varsity MVP of Carroll’s golf team, and a two year First Team GCL. I started playing competitive golf at the end of my 8th grade year, and over the past three years I have lowered my golf score from average 84 to 78 to my junior year average of 74. I have progressed significantly year after year. This past year’s accomplishments include a win in a Southern Ohio PGA tournament by shooting a 72, and a top ten overall finish in the SOPGA playing in a minimal number of events. During the school season, I won an invitational with over 100 golfers by shooting a 75. In the Ohio high school state tournament I shot a 75 to win low medalist in Sectionals, and shot a 74 at Districts to miss state by one stroke. Although I also have a passion for basketball and I have been voted team captain for Carroll, I elected to solely concentrate on golf my junior year.
John Wilkinson, my swing coach at Down Under Par Golf for the past year, agreed with this decision and explained that I will be more successful in golf with a more focused approach. He frequently compares me to “Steve Stricker” because of my simple swing and honed in fundamentals which come from hard work and practice.
I have a strong desire to play college golf and wish to play at the highest level. Based on my accomplishments thus far and as I continue to improve, I believe I will make a significant contribution to any collegiate golf team. Additionally, through my basketball participation I have become a strong team player, which is an asset of any successful golf team. Even though I am open to attending many different types of schools, a school with strong academics is preferred because I am looking for a career in the medical field.
