Hi, my name is Drew Gandy. I am currently a senior at Midland High School in Midland, Michigan. I have been playing golf since I was 6 years old, and competitive tournaments since I was 10 years old. Prior to the Fall of 2014, I played on a State Championship travel baseball team and a Junior Little League baseball team that represented the Central Region in the Junior League World Series. I believe these experiences have shaped my competitive spirit and have made me a better golf competitor. As of September 2014, I put all of my sport’s emphasis to golf. Over the last year and a half, I have worked once a week with my swing coach, Mr. Jim Deiters. Mr. Deiters is the Head PGA professional at the Midland Country Club, and a former teaching professional at Desert Mountain, in Scottsdale, Arizona where he helped several junior players achieve national rankings. He has helped me with strong fundamental improvements, and has given me insightful swing knowledge so that I am able to self assess my swing. In addition to playing for my high school team this year, I will be playing in GAM affiliated events, AJGA tournaments, and playing events on the Adams Junior Golf Tour. I am a positive, energetic, and hardworking individual who is encouraging to his teammates while trying my best to set a good example. I pride myself on the principle that I know without a doubt, I will be able to outwork anyone. I am committed to practicing 8 hours a week during the winter. I am also committed to the physical aspect of the game by being mindful of my diet, lifting three times a week, and running and flexibility training twice a week.
By playing basketball for my high school team, and baseball for my entire childhood, I love the concept of being a part of a team. Also, I continue to develop my leadership skills outside of sports. I am a member on the Midland County Youth Leadership steering team, facilitated by Northwood University. I am also a member of my school’s Student Council. I am an excellent student (4.1 GPA) and by being so busy I have developed great time management skills. I am confident that I will be able to balance the demands of academic and athletic commitments in college.
It has always been my dream to play golf at the collegiate level. If given the opportunity, I will become not only a strong player on your team, but a player you can trust and someone who will represent your program well. I believe that I have made significant progress in the last year and a half but I have the drive to accomplish much more. I truly believe that I would be an asset and strong contributor on your team. I look forward to hearing from you!
