Within the last 4 years, I have focused hard on developing goals and then rising to meet them. In the 7th grade, I desired to go to the best College Prep High School in Hawaii, Punahou, and met that goal by excelling in academics, extracurricular activities, and sports. Once at Punahou, a challenging academic and sports environment, I set the goal my Freshman year of maintaining above a 3.0 GPA in tough classes, excelling in band, and most importantly, making the Varsity Golf Team. I achieved a 3.2 GPA, was 1st Trumpet chair amongst upperclassmen, and made the Varsity team (78 avg), going on to play in the league and state Golf Championships. My Sophomore year, I again had taken tough classes and made above a 3.2 GPA, continued in both Concert and Marching Bands, again made the Varsity Golf Team (improving to 74 avg), except this time my goal was top 10 in the league and top 20 in the state championships, which I placed 6th and 16th respectively. In my Junior year, I placed consistently in top 10 with a medalist in the league and state championships and had a great summer season playing numerous mainland tournaments. The last year of High school I plan to become a scholar athlete (3.325 GPA as a 4 year Varsity letter winner in Golf (72 or less avg)), continue exploring options for a major in college, and be in the top 5 for both the league and state championships plus place consistently in the top 10 for various local amateur tournaments. My goals in college are to graduate in 4 years with a degree that is my passion (to be determined!), play Top tier college golf (not warm the bench wherever I go), and then if the opportunity arises through this hard work and a little luck, play as a PGA professional. My dream is to play the PGA tour and realize this is extremely hard and requires many things to happen, but I take this as a marathon, not a sprint, to get there. I have progressed with and met goals these past 4 years through much adversity, and by hard work and my faith I believe I can reach this goal I aspire to be. Since my passion is golf and helping people (as shown through my coaching at the First Tee program of Hawaii and Math tutoring at Punahou for the past 2 years), my 'backup' plan is to pursue this passion if in fact I cannot become a PGA professional, so I am a realist also. One college coach I have been corresponding with put it best: be the best person, son, friend you can be everyday – make a difference! I intend to do this as I have been told by another coach that I have a great outlook, even through adversity, and that is what will make me a good teammate and have success in anything I do!
