Hello, my name is Brodyn DeHoet. I am a sophomore at Groton High School in Groton, South Dakota. This year I made the difficult decision to transfer to a new school to pursue my basketball dreams. I could stay at the school I grew up in with the friends I knew or I could take a chance at a new school to play Varsity Boys Basketball. It was the hardest choice I have ever had to make, but I feel it is the best one. On my new team I am able to be a part of a team. We have built a brotherhood, and our team motto is FOE - Family Over Everything. I believe each player has a role and if we aren't playing as a team then we can't succeed as individuals either. My position is at power forward. My role is to be aggressive on both offense and defense, to get boards, and score inside and out. I am the tallest player on the team, my size is a strength to my ability and I am a versatile player. This year individually I have maintained the leading scoring position and have been in double digits each game. I also play on a summer AAU state traveling team called the Midwest Magic.
Off the court, I realize school needs be a priority. Making a transition has been easier on the court, but I am working just as hard in the classroom. I am hoping It will get easier as I learn the expectations and get more comfortable. I have made a great group of friends and spend most of my time hanging with my teammates. I enjoy hunting, fishing, playing video games, and anything sports related. I have a black lab named Ozzy who is my best bud.
My family has done everything to support me. I basically grew up in a gym playing on traveling teams with my parents and older sister Dacotah following me. When we aren't traveling for basketball they always made is a priority to do other traveling as a family to create memories. My favorite trip has been spending Christmas in the Dominican Republic.
My goal is to continue playing ball in college. I am a good candidate because of my size and versatility. I believe that the team always comes first. No matter what I can contribute, being a team player is most important. As a teenager I am faced with choices everyday that could affect my path. I know that if I want to make my collegiate dreams come true I am not always going to be able to follow the crowd. My parents and coaches have taught me that what I do and who I am with are a reflection on and off the court of my own character. This can be tough but my eye is on the prize. That is why I choose to spend my free time in the gym working on skills, lifting, or balling with my friends.
