Personal Statement

My name is Zack Taylor and I am currently enrolled at Shaler Area High School. Last year as a junior I started varsity on a 22-2 team, ranked as high as 3rd in the Commonwealth of PA. In this my senior season and as a second year starter and team captain, I led our squad to a 25-4 record, a WPIAL final four appearance and a run to the quarterfinals in the State playoffs.  Some senior season stats:  2nd in scoring avg of 10.5; 1st in 3 pt fg% of 40%; 1st in assists per game; 2nd in steals per game and 1st in assist/to ratio of 2.57.  Complete senior season stats can be found at maxpreps.com.

http://www.maxpreps.com/high-schools/shaler-area-titans-(pittsburgh,pa)/basketball-winter-11-12/stats.htm

I am a 6'0'', 160 lbs. point/shooting guard. I have played basketball all of my life and have come to be a leader on the court through excellent instruction and years of practice. My greatest strength on the court is my knowledge of the game. I have continued to play and excel at a high level of basketball, so that it can provide me an education at a well-respected college. I plan to attend a school that has an urban or suburban setting. I see myself playing at a D2 or high academic D3 school.

  • Zack Thank you for attending our College Prospects Clinic in August and for working as hard as you did. You certainly showed the coaches in attendance that you have the desire and work ethic to be a college player. Of course, there are things you need to work on, but you have the right approach to be successful. I was impressed with your attitude during the two-day clinic. You are a nice kid to be around and seem very coachable. Although size and body type are mostly out of your control, there are a number of things you can control to become a better player: skill level, strength & conditioning, and basketball savvy are among them. How many lines did you touch in the Celtics running test? Steve Nash???s record is 31, college guards should be over 27, and fit college posts should be over 25. How many 3s did you make in 10 minutes? Good college shooters finish in less than 9 minutes and great shooters finish in under 8 minutes. Below are your results so you can use them as a point of reference in the future. Celtics Test Time: 27 Valparaiso Score: 77 Below are the YouTube links to each group???s Shooting Workout from Day 1. Please watch your workout with your high school coach. The most important things to watch for are your footwork, your balance, and your shooting form. You want these things to be consistent from any distance whether you???re shooting off the catch or off the dribble. Shooting Group 1 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fLeI7QpLSFQ Shooting Group 2 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hqYecXGb87s Shooting Group 3 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fWaAmUSagHo Please keep in mind, there are a number of things you can do to help yourself throughout the recruiting process. Below are a few suggestions??? 1. Be a great guy, do your best academically, and always work hard to improve as a player 2. Be proactive???take the time to contact the coaches at schools that fit your criteria and send them a highlight film whenever possible 3. Make a point to introduce yourself to your opponents??? coaches because you never know who might be able to make a key recommendation for you There are so many benefits to playing college basketball. Quite often, you will have a higher GPA, better summer internship opportunities, and more professional options after you graduate if you spend your undergraduate years as a student-athlete. Please let me know any thoughts that you have about our clinic as we always want to do a better job in the future. I wish you the best of luck this season and feel free to contact me anytime. I really enjoyed coaching you and loved the energy and hustle you brought to our team. You have excellent speed and quickness and with your ball handling ability you can be a very successful PG in college. Continue to work on your outside shooting to become more consistent and a better overall scorer. Great job and good luck this season." Coach Arlen Galloway, Middlebury College
