Personal Statement

Dear coaches,

My name is Charles Miller. I am currently eighteen years old and I'm from in Montreal, Canada. At the moment, I am 6‘0’ and I weight 180lb. Currently, I play with SPIRE Institute Academy. I'm going to play as a point guard in the best level as I'm doing my Post Grad year at the same time. We're going to play all around the United States, Canada and we're going in Puerto Rico too. I am very excited by this experience and I hope getting the best of it.

Last year, I was playing with John Abbott College. We were a Division 1 team, who competed against the best team and players of the provinces. I was pointguard/shooting guard during my freshhman year. I played as sixth man and I got really good minutes every game. I also started couple of game as shooting guard. I won Top Rookie of the team and Outstanding Rookie Performance over all rookie of the school.

I play basketball since I am nine years old and my greatest accomplishment is when I won the Most Valuable Player of my team last year with the West Island Lakers Juvenile AAA. Last years, it was my second year in the AAA level. My coach gave me all the control of the team because he knew I was the main leader. I did my best and I fought through injury. I leaded my team to one of their best season of all-time. Fortunately, we finished the season with the second best record in the league and we reached the playoff. I was very grateful to my coach and to the organization with this honor. At the end of the year, I won Top rookie of Basketball and I won Outstanding Male Rookie of the year over evry other rookie in every team.

Since I play basketball, my coaches and my teammates have always said the same thing on me. They and I consider myself as a leader, a hard worker, a perseverant player, an altruistic player and a someone with good attitude. I’ve been a team captain for 3 years in a row at school and I was assistant captain with the Juvenile AAA. I love being a leader because you seem to be the second coach when you’re on the court. Players listen to you. Also, I am a hard worker because I always want to improve. I have the rage of improving. I never miss practice or game because I have a commitment with my coach, my team, my teammates and myself.  Finally, I am a player who emerges a lot of good attitude and positive thought. I have learned a lot of stuff about positive thinking because I know how important attitude is.

For next years, I’d like to go to find a good college with a high basketball program. I don’t have a specific school in particular. I just want to find schools with a great basketball program that can help me reach the professional level.

At the moment, I'm not looking for a specific college. It can be big, small, all boys or co-ed it doesn't matter. I want to go to a school who has interest in me. Of course I want to play, but I know that not everybody is a Division 1 player.

For the next year, I'd like to receive a full scholarship. Because, at the moment, my twin brother, Philippe, is doing the same time for his career. Except that he is a hockey player. Also, in most college, the tuition fees are very high. This is something we can't afford.

In the coming years, my realistic goals is to find a college with a great academic and basketball program. I am looking to play at the best possible level. But, my biggest dream for next year is to study while I am part of a great basketball team. Because I'll do whatever it takes to be on a great team, whether it's sitting on a bench waving a towel, handing a cup of water to a teammate, or hiting the game winning shot.

NCSA COLLEGE RECRUITING®

NCSA College Recruiting® (NCSA) is the nation’s leading collegiate recruiting source for more than 500,000 student-athletes and 42,000 college coaches. By taking advantage of this extensive network, more than 92 percent of NCSA verified athletes play at the college level. The network is available to high school student-athletes around the country through valued relationships with the NFLPA, FBU, NFCA and SPIRE. Each year, NCSA educates over 4 million athletes and their parents about the recruiting process through resources on its website, presentations of the critically-acclaimed seminar College Recruiting Simplified, and with Athletes Wanted, the book written by NCSA founder Chris Krause.
