PERSONAL STATEMENT
As a proud high achieving student accepted into the NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY (NHS), I continue to strive to be the best leader I can be; at home, in school, on the basketball court and in the community.
At home I am the oldest of 5 siblings in my family. Being the oldest brother motivates me to be an excellent role model for them and teach them valuable life lessons. In the classroom, I display my leadership not only by my great academic achievements, but also by conducting myself in a respectful manner and actively participating in class. My classroom leadership contributes to a positive learning environment. On my basketball teams, as a point guard it is important to guide, direct and encourage my teammates with proper communication to help the team win.
I believe that these various leadership aspects in my daily life are also reflected in one of my passions for mentoring and teaching young children in the community. I volunteer at my local community center and I work through a special foundation (Moving Minds Forward) dedicated to assisting youth with different developmental learning needs. I am a positive influence at the community center by tutoring the children with their homework, and coaching them in their basketball fundamentals.
Playing Basketball as a Scholar Athlete at the College level is one of my top goals. This achievement would increase my opportunities to develop my leadership qualities by playing at the highest educational level. My educational status will also benefit by enhancing my knowledge of Science, Environmental Studies, Communication and Business to better service the community and be a positive influence on society.
