Basketball is a huge part of my life because I love everything about the sport and I look forward to practicing every day and I never tire of it. I push myself to meet any challenge on or off the floor. Characteristics I’ve been able to build from playing and practicing basketball include leadership, accountability, determination, perseverance, and humbleness. I met my goal of making varsity as a freshmen in a class A school which gave me the opportunity to take my game to the next level. It also gave me the opportunity to increase my leadership on the floor and in the classroom. I was held as accountable and given the same responsibilities as my upper class teammates. The varsity experience challenged me because I was no longer the best player on the team and I had to work endlessly to earn my playtime. Through hard work I hope to achieve my goals and ultimately play college basketball.
My Pius X basketball team made it to the class A State Tournament this year and lost first round. It was an extremely bitter feeling of disappointment not only for ourselves but also for our fans and our school. Struggle and pain motivate me to push harder to enhance my skills to become a great team player because I understand there is no shortcut to success.
My personal attributes include game situation knowledge, shooting, (three point shooting, pull up jumpers), ball handling, defense, coach ability, toughness, communication, desire to win, and work ethic. I am not afraid of long hours on the court and I evaluate myself and I value my coaches’ evaluations to point out my weaknesses so I can improve them.
I am looking for a college where I can achieve my dream of contributing to a college basketball team, excel academically and earn a college degree, and building lifelong friendships and memories.
