My name is Jonathan Arenas and I am a junior at Maine South High School in Park Ridge, IL. I have been a starter on the basketball varsity team as a shooting guard since my sophomore year winning a regional championship and sectional qualifier. Currently, I'm ranked in the Illinois Top 25 Junior Prospects by well respected sources (http://www.basketball-camp.net/about-us/blog?start=90-). This past season I averaged 13 points, 3.1 assist, 2.9 rebounds, 2.7 steals per game as a junior. I broke the single season record for steals at my school recording 80 steals in my junior year. This year Maine South was ranked top 10 teams in Illinois. We finished with a record of 26-4. I was awarded to the All-Conference Team, Honorable Mentioned for Regional and State Teams, All-Tournament team at both the Maine West Classic and Galesburg MLK tournaments.
In the AAU circuit, I participated in the by-invitation-only Fall Workouts with the Illinois Wolves during my freshman and sophomore years, played as Point Guard for the Illinois Old School 15U Elite team, was a starter Point Guard for TAW (The Athlete Within) Elite 16U - Carpenter team placing 10th at the Division 1 Nationals last summer in Louisville, KY. For the current Spring and Summer AAU seasons, I was recruited to play for top-ranked 17U Team NLP (Next Level Performance), an AAU team founded by former three-time NBA champions, Chicago Bulls' player, Dickey Simpkins. I play starting Guard for the team in a two platoon system. We are scheduled to play in the month of July at the NY2LA Summer Fest in Milwaukee and at the Division1 Nationals in Louisville, KY and would hope to have the opportunity to personally introduce myself to you at these events.
Over my past 3 years I have signficantly increased my strength and speed. I am a well-rounded athlete and have been a top performer and competitor setting school records in Basketball, Track, and Football. I'm a versatile shooting guard/point guard with great physical presence and size. I run a 5:03 mile. At 6'-3" 180 lbs with bounce in my vertical, I posess great athletic abilities, offensively and defensively. I also bring speed, leadership, enthusiasm and a big heart to make the whole better than the sum of the parts. I have a 3.6/4.0 GPA taking a rigourous coursework and am involved in various leadership clubs at Maine South such as South Stars, Hawk Pride (Peer Leaders), J. Kyle Braid (JKB), and Junior Leaders. With two seasons of playing varsity under my belt already, I have high expectations of myself to be a top prospect in my state and to be able to contribute to Team NLP in winning another AAU 17U Division 1 National Championship.
I have the drive to succeed and a desire to become the absolute best player I can be. I am very passionate in playing basketball at the next level, as you have noticed by now. Hence, I seek to find the right opportunity to bring my talents, enthusiasm and leadership to a great college basketball program that is also complemented by a strong academic, exciting and transformative environment.
