Basketball has been a part of my life since I was born. My first toy was a little ball and a hoop. Ever since I was a baby, I have been around basketball. My dad would always take me to the gym at Georgetown University to watch him play.
My family has a very long history with basketball. My dad had the opportunity to go play professional basketball overseas but turned it down to continue his education. My dad also started a organization called SEEDS Academy in Senegal, Africa. The purpose of this organization is to help expose the best high school basketball players in Senegal to high school scouts from the US. My family now has the opportunity to be a host family to three men from Senegal. All of which have played D1 basketball on scholarship. The oldest and first kid we hosted is named Jules Camara and played at Kentucky. After Jules came Baye Moussa Keita. He played at Syracuse and now has an award named after him. After his days at Syracuse were over he received an offer to play professional basketball in Denmark. He accepted the offer and went on to win multiple championships with his team. Shortly after Baye came Bounama Keita who is Baye’s little brother. After he finished his high school years in the US he went on to play D1 basketball at the University of South Dakota but later transferred to Metro State University in Denver. In short I have been raised around basketball.
I would like to say that my basketball IQ is very high. I think I can honestly say that I average more assists than I do points and I think that is because I am a team player. I will gladly give up a three pointer for a better, more sure shot. I think that I have an ability to make amazing passes. Not the kind of show like passes but really smart passes that I have noticed that some of my peers can’t make.
I think that I have an amazing work ethic and would work really hard to get to where I want to be.
In the classroom I have struggled some but I have shown resilience and worked back to where I need to be. I know that good grades will make or break my college career and I also know that I need to keep my grades up if I want to achieve my goals.
For me, basketball is not something I take lightly and I realize that I chose basketball for a reason. I want to make sure that basketball is an enjoyment for me not something I do because I want a degree. To me basketball is a lifestyle and something that I love playing and something that I know will be a part of my life long after my career is done.
