My name is Jon-Thomas Royston and I am currently a student at Concordia Irvine University, with the aspirations of playing Men’s Basketball at the collegiate level. Since my high school graduation in 2011 I have played on Concordia’s JV team where I received valued knowledge of the game as well as varsity experience within practices and open gyms alike. At this point in my life I am in search of a firm commitment to a team in which my skills could be utilized to their full potential, while allowing me to gain more knowledge about the game. The majority of my coaches I have come in contact have told me that my most impressive trait is my quickness with and without the ball. I am difficult to guard off the dribble and with my 6’1/185lb frame, I am not easily moved on offense or defense (where I shine specifically). My physicality on both ends of the floor also gives me the time I need to deliver passes on point and be strong with the ball in pressure situations. Although a slasher at heart, I am also developing to be a more consistent spot up shooter beyond the arc. In my opinion the most solid part of my game is my attitude. I’ve never received a technical foul, yet would never back down a challenge or an experience to gain more knowledge.
I am specifically looking to make myself available to transfer for the 2013-2014 season, and plan to take all of the steps necessary to attend open gyms in an attempt to showcase my skills and prove my loyalty as a player. As a young guard of only 18 years of age I believe that I can be an asset to a team ranging from the DIII to NAIA level. Thank you for taking the time to read my personal statement and hopefully you will consider making a new addition to your roster.
