My interest in football started when I was 9. My father was a hard core New York Giants fan and was watching the Super Bowl in 2012. I saw and heard his excitement and became interested in the game. By the end of the game, I knew I had to play. I spoke to my Dad about it, who played baseball for many years. His stories of playing only encouraged my interest in playing football. That spring I started playing flag football, followed by tackle that summer. My tackle coach that summer was all about conditioning, and I struggled through a long hot summer, pushing myself. As a childhood cancer survivor, I learned early not to quit. By the end of my first year, I was hooked. My third year, my coach asked me if I would quarterback. At the time, I was unsure, but because the coach saw something I didn’t and directly asked me, I agreed. I excelled that year both playing and leading the team and won MVP in our league. My interest in quarterbacking was set. Since then I have been working year round with an ex college quarterback teaching high school football, on improving my skills. I have gone on to quarterback middle school, wherein I earned the leadership award after the season, and now moving forward I will be playing high school freshman quarterback.
As serious as I am on the field, I am also serious about my education. I am an A/B student taking advanced courses. I will continue my efforts in order to find a school where I can find a good balance between football and education. My goal is to gain a degree in Sports Management where I can then work in the football sporting arena, satisfying my love for all aspects of the game.
Thank you for taking the time to get to know me and I look forward to any opportunity that may present itself.
Sincerely,
Spencer Irons
