University of Tennessee Head Coach Phil Fulmer called the hospital the day I was born! At least that’s what doctor who delivered me said, because I was a 10 pounder! My name is Bailey Rollins and I am a 6’ 4” 280 lb. lineman that plays both sides for The King’s Academy in Seymour, TN. At age eight and nine, I played with Seymour Youth Football where I experienced my first championship run. My parents pulled me from football for their reasons, but my desire to play stayed with me and during my seventh grade year my parents agreed to let me restart football in eighth grade. Meanwhile, I was still participating in other sports such as school basketball and USA swimming. After my eighth grade season ended, I was asked to join the high school varsity team for their final few games and participated with my team in our schools first ever TSSAA play-offs. Even though we didn’t win, we are getting better each year!!
Academically, I am an A/B student in advance middle school courses, am in Jr. Beta Club, and participate in the Duke TIP program. I have enrolled for my freshman classes and will be taking several honors courses. I understand that colleges today, at all levels, require good students and I don’t want my grades to hinder my recruitment in any way.
In the off season, I work with several trainers to prepare me for the next season and the rest of my career. In addition to working out with my team three days a week, I also work out weekly with a local D-1 linebacker on foot speed and agility as well as weekly with a recently retired NFL lineman on specific lineman skills. I also work out with a private strength and conditioning coach. I am scheduled to attend two camps this summer and plan on attending at least three camps in the years that follow.
I, like most, want to play D-1 football in the future but am open to all levels and know I must work hard to be eligible to play at any level. I guess my strongest attribute is that I like the process of getting better. I like getting up early when others won’t, staying later when others leave, and learning from my mistakes. If I do those things, and play with heart, then I am a champion!
