Personal Statement

I am the youngest in my family. My older half brother teaches school, my older sister just graduated cum laude from George Washington University, my mom is a very successful law firm partner who owns her own large law firm, and my dad is my hero--he is the dean of students and head football coach at my high school. He has helped thousands of kids go to college and realize their dreams.  There is no doubt that I will also finish college and be successful. I have had great role models and examples set for me and I want to achieve just like the rest of my family.

I belong to an organization called Jack and Jill of America and participate in public service activities through them. I sing in the varsity choir.  I am a member of the Yearbook club, and I am a varsity basketball player (used to play baseball too!)  So I love sports and have been told that I am a natural athlete--but I like to say I am a natural "student-athlete" since I am a member of the National Society of High School Scholars and the National Honor Society.  Not only am I active in school and community activities, I have traveled as a representative of the United States in the People to People Ambassador Program to Greece, France and Italy.  In each of these countries, I met dignitaries, attended classes, met other foreign representatives, and explored new cultures, foods and traditions.  It gave me a greater appreciation for the world and for diversity and economic connections. I know that my ACT score does not quite reflect my ability in the classroom.   I do try hard though and I always succeed.    I am a leader and I try to always set good examples like the ones that have been set for me. I believe in helping and I believe in winning.

What sets me apart from other recruits is that in addition to being a solid, upstanding, hard-working team player who follows directions and gets the job done, I love the philosophy of the game of football.  I study the game and even help my dad write plays sometimes. I have played football in some way shape or form since I was in third grade, from flag football at the park district to playing with my grammar school teams.  I love the game.  I have been a wide receiver, a cornerback, a safety and most recently the starting quarterback of my high school team.  I even played some varsity games when I was a sophomore.  I am a very fast runner (except I hit a growth spurt recently and grew five inches in about 15 months so my upper body is trying to catch up with my long legs) and I am fearless.  I have been told that I am very coachable and that I learn fast.

Most athletes dream of being a professional ball player.  I would consider myself the most blessed and lucky person in the world if I were that fortunate.  But, realistically, I would love to graduate college with a degree that would allow me to be involved in some way with sports, whether it is on the elementary, high school, college or professional level.  I have thought about careers in sports production, physical therapy or athletic training, coaching, athletic director or journalism.  With the way social media is growing, by the time I graduate there may be even more careers available so I would keep my eyes open for something interesting after I graduate.  Most important to me though is to find a school with a diverse population that is a great fit socially, academically, and athletically.
