Sylvester Garnes '17 Recruiting Profile

I aspire to complete a course of study and obtain a degree in business marketing. Business marketing, specifically sports marketing, is relevant to my true passion; football. I also want to have a college experience that may forge lifelong friendships and offer an opportunity to network with others with similar interests and goals. During my time in college I’d love the opportunity to play football, with additional aspirations of elevating my game to the professional level. I have a strong desire to win. In order for anyone to win, they must develop and hone their mental and physical skills. I feel having this knowledge and wanting to be coached to get the best of my abilities makes me a great candidate for a team. I take direction well, exhibit a positive attitude, and will ask questions to take advantage of learning opportunities. I won't give a coach discipline problems or undermine their authority with poor behavior or a poor work ethic. I believe that generally, most of my peers exhibit good character. However, I believe that what sets me aside from other potential candidates is my accountability, and selflessness. I can own my mistakes, learn from them, and make improvements moving forward. Also, in what most would consider the “me” era, I make the team first, and will make personal sacrifices for the success of my team. Generally learning is easy for me. My favorite subject is math. There are subjects that I would consider as “not my favorites.” What I feel sets me aside from other potential candidates is my ability to recognize this and take steps to improve on these subjects by putting in extra work. I’ve asked for extra credit and sought additional instruction after school. Most importantly I understand that academics are the key to my goals, success, and my primary focus. I feel like my combination of speed, power, and agility sets me aside from my peers. My ability to play and exceed at multiple positions is another reason why I would be a great asset to a coach. I take my training and conditioning seriously, and my body is ready to perform at all times. Overall, my athletic abilities allow me to perform to high standards. The combination of these attributes make me an excellent candidate and I look forward to contributing to the team and using this opportunity to improve myself athletically and academically.
