Merritt Jones '23 Recruiting Profile

Growing up as the youngest of three brothers, I watched my two older brothers win 5A State Championship rings as wide receivers at Pulaski Academy's high profile football program and this year as a sophomore wide receiver I'm getting my chance to help my team do the same. My ultimate dream is to play competitive college football while pursuing an engineering degree. 

Playing football at Pulaski Academy (where we go for it on fourth down, almost never punt and on-side kick on every kickoff) has taught me to play aggressively, not be afraid of taking risks or making a mistake. The football program at Pulaski Academy is a 47-week per year sport which requires a very high level of commitment, dedication and perseverance. Playing in a winning program has taught me the value of working hard as a team toward a common goal, attitude, consistency, execution, attention to every little detail and the extra effort and preparation required to be successful. I have also had the benefit of closely watching several high school players from my school go on to successful college football careers, and I believe I can do the same.

As demonstrated by my current 4.27 GPA, I am extremely committed to my academic future. I believe playing college football will only help me continue to grow and develop as a complete college student athlete. I have also demonstrated high character and leadership by example among my teammates on every team I've been on since the 5th grade, both in football and basketball.

My family has had the privilege of traveling to remote, less fortunate parts of the world on short-term mission trips which has given me perspective on what a real blessing and privilege it is to be able to attend college and potentially play college football.
