As a young child I was always extremely competitive. This is because I have a twin and never wanted to be thought of as the worse twin. My competitive nature makes me who I am and pushes me to accomplish greater things in life. Another aspect of my life that contributed to the person I am today is that I am raised by a single mother. Her hard work and dedication towards supplying her family with the best possible life is admirable and inspirational for me. Her ambition leads me to follow in her footsteps and work hard in everything that I try to accomplish. This competitiveness and dedication led me to participate in sports. Throughout my childhood I greatly enjoyed the field hockey unit in gym class. The aggression and teamwork completely intrigued me, so I decided to participate in a field hockey camp over the summer of my fifth grade. At the camp I got to watch the current varsity players pass and dribble causing me to completely love the sport. At the summer camp I was probably one of the worst players there; however this is not the player I am today, for it is the countless hours practicing, playing, and training that makes me the player I am today. This dedication to the sport taught me that a person can achieve anything if he or she tries his or her best. I am diligent not only in my athletics but also in my academics. Ever since elementary school I would study to prepare myself for college, and in college I hope to get my medical degree so that I can become an oncologist. An obstacle I face as a field hockey player in York County is that York County is not as competitive as Lancaster and Harrisburg. This was a struggle that my whole school team encountered, for Dallastown would win the league and lose the first game in districts. The team and I overcame this obstacle my Junior year when we won our first game in districts after many years of falling short. This was a result of the hard work that the team and I did over the season and off season.
