Personal Statement

Character is a major attribute to a successful field hockey player. What is different about me and my character is I am very focused and dedicated to playing the sport I have loved since the age of seven. I am quiet, but not necessarily introverted. A mixture of both quiet, but talkative would best describe my character. I get to know people very well and dedicated to created a friendship and bond with my team. I want to create relationships with coaches and staff, so that for both of us, we can continue to grow and become better at what we both do best. Another point is that I am very dedicated to playing field hockey and never miss practices and games. Some people call this unyielding dedication to playing goalie a passion. I think of it more as grit, perseverance and hard work.

While athletics teach discipline, teamwork and attention to detail, the main goal of college is to prepare me for a career in psychiatry so I can help those who need it most. I would make a good candidate for any college field hockey team because I am very hardworking and can work well with new teams and new people. While playing on Futures and Super Sixty teams, I am accustomed to to playing with ever-changing players with various skill sets.

I have improved my academics every year, and while I know I have some room to grow academically, I feel I have made great strides over the last three years. I thrive in English and History classes and continually improve in other subjects. Since I want to go to college to start me on the path to becoming a Psychiatrist, I work exceptionally hard in those other subjects. Athletics is only one aspect of who I am, but it is a key part in providing me with the skills and discipline for what is needed for my future career.

I play two sports, Field Hockey and Equestrian, both I would love to continue on into college and possibly beyond. I started Field Hockey when I was seven and I started as a sweeper. After two years of playing the field, my coach asked me to play goalie. I said yes and as soon as I put on the pads, I never left. From then on I have been a goalie, and I have loved every second of it. I do training two to three times a week off season and I play everyday single day in season. For Equestrian, I started when I was six years old at a local stable and from then on, I haven't gotten off. I ride once a week training as a hunter/jumper and will start showing again in Spring of 2018. Freshman year, I received a varsity letter for equestrian from my school.
