My name is Joanne Nazareth and I am from Wilton, Connecticut; I will graduate in the class of 2013. I come from a long line of field hockey players including my dad and my second cousin who played on the Indian National Team. I have been a three-year varsity starter on my high school team and have achieved a great amount of success in my field hockey career. My greatest athletic achievement was qualifying for the 2011 Junior Olympics in New Orleans. Being selected to compete against some of the best field hockey players in the country and winning the bronze medal was an incredible honor! This past season, I played a big role in winning a State Championship for my high school and was elected captain for the upcoming season. I received the Trackside Teen Center athlete of the week award as well as All FCIAC East.
I am 5’0” and 100 lbs, but my height doesn’t bother me at all; I compensate for that with my agility and speed. I may not be the toughest person of the field, but I am certainly the fastest. In addition, my powerful strike and keen sense of the game make me a very versatile player. My best qualities are my coachablity, determination, and willingness to work hard. I make it a point to practice on my own for a few hours every week year-round.
I love playing field hockey and am extremely interested in playing field hockey at the collegiate level. I am looking for an institution where I can find the perfect balance between the classroom and the field. I would like to pursue an institution with an outstanding academic reputation in the field of medicine. Ideally, my athletic environment would be one where I could make an immediate impact on the team. I believe my best fit would be at the DI level, although I will absolutely consider high academic opportunities at the DII or DIII level.
