Personal Statement

Thank you for taking the time to check out my page!  My name is Meghan Cerino, and I'm a senior goalkeeper at Haddam Killingworth High School in Higganum, CT.  Since the rest of my page will tell you about what I look like on paper, I'd like to describe myself as a teammate, student, and overall person.

As an athlete, I am constantly pushing myself.  Whether it's pushing myself to become faster, more agile, or stronger, I am persistent when it comes to setting and achieving my goals.  I love competing, and I'm the type of person who looks forward to the big "do-or-die" type games.  Over the years, I've also discovered that beyond the physical aspect of any sport, there is a mental aspect which cannot be ignored.  As a goalkeeper, I know that keeping a positive attitude and refraining from beating yourself up is an important part of the game.

Describing my academic life, I could definitely reiterate a lot of the qualities I talked about above.  This year, I've taken two Advanced Placement level classes (United States History and Civics & English Language and Composition), as well as an early college experience UCONN Literature course.  My schedule next year won't be any easier--I will be taking AP Human Geography, AP Spanish, AP English Literature and Composition, AP Probability and Statistics, and Uconn Physics.  My favorite classes so far have included AP United States History and Civics and past years of Spanish honors classes.  I'm very excited  when it comes to learning about different cultures and ways of life.  I also enjoyed taking a Video Communications class this year, and I look forward to taking an extensive communications class next year.  I would love to attend a liberal arts school and continue to pursue my academic interests.

Finally, I'll briefly describe myself as a person.  Although writing this whole essay has been hard, this part is the hardest because nobody wants to sound like a egotist describing herself, which is probably the perfect segue to my first point--I tend to be pretty humble.  I would describe myself as very empathetic, and the people I surround myself with are always my top priorities.  I'm hardworking, self-motivated, and I've been told that I lead by example.

Thanks again for taking the time to read this!

NCSA COLLEGE RECRUITING®

NCSA College Recruiting® (NCSA) is the nation’s leading collegiate recruiting source for more than 500,000 student-athletes and 42,000 college coaches. By taking advantage of this extensive network, more than 92 percent of NCSA verified athletes play at the college level. The network is available to high school student-athletes around the country through valued relationships with the NFLPA, FBU, NFCA and SPIRE. Each year, NCSA educates over 4 million athletes and their parents about the recruiting process through resources on its website, presentations of the critically-acclaimed seminar College Recruiting Simplified, and with Athletes Wanted, the book written by NCSA founder Chris Krause.
