My name is Walter Pipkin. I turned 15 in July of 2017, am 5'9” in height and I weigh 150 pounds. I have been playing baseball for almost 10 years now. I love playing and especially love when I pitch. I've never had a lights-out fastball so I've worked hard for years on location. My coaches have told me my ability to locate pitches along with my demeanor on the mound will take me a long way. I don't get rattled by hits or errors behind me because once that pitch is gone, I can't do anything about it. A lot of people say I actually pitch better with runners on base. I really do love the challenge of trying to get out of a rough inning with little or no damage.
While I generally pitch the most innings on my teams, I also play multiple other positions. In the past, I only wanted to play infield but over the past 2.5 years, I have come to love playing outfield as well. Catcher has taken a good part of my playing time and my pop time has decreased significantly over the last year (though I have not been officially timed). Basically though, I will go wherever the coach tells me to go.
Additionally, I play football, tennis, basketball, have run track and completed a couple of triathlons. Bottom line, one of my favorite activities is working out. One thing my parents have taught me is that talent does not mean much if you don’t work hard to utilize it the right way. I make it a point to out-hustle everyone and I never quit.
I would love an opportunity to play sports in college. I am currently taking all pre-AP courses as a freshman and plan on continuing to challenge myself to graduate with a great head start towards college. I’ve played events at several different institutions, from D1 to community colleges and had fun at all of them. Ideally, I’m looking for a college with great academics, great coaches, and an excellent all-around athletics program where I can play the most competitive baseball and possibly other sports as well. I want to be somewhere I can contribute and help a team be the best it can be.
I appreciate your time in reviewing my profile and I hope to meet some of you at upcoming camps and events.
Thank you,
Walter Pipkin
