My name is Leigh Sullivan. I have played baseball since I was four years old. My parents first started me out with a Lil Tikes tee ball set when I was three. They introduced me to tee ball (Little League) at four years old. I learned the game very rapidly. I also found that I could excel in this sport. Ever since I started playing, my love and knowledge of the game has grown.
I have played every position on the field, with the exception of 1st base. Second base was where I excelled until I was 10 years old. This was when my little league coach gave me the opportunity to try catching. After 1 game I was hooked, as well as my coach. In the following years I constantly researched YouTube and worked on improving my skills and knowledge of the position. While catching for my travel ball and middle school teams, I have had many random people praise the way I play the position. I knew I still had a long way to go, but this did encourage me.
I’ve always been the smallest guy on my teams. At first I thought this was terrible. What I learned was that, while being small is hard, it also makes you have to work even harder than the other guys. Being a small catcher was also a blessing because after people see how I play the position they are surprised. Coaches and players have sometimes underestimated me, which kind of gives me a chance to stand out. Being small was an obstacle at first but also forced me to learn how to use my whole body.
Being small at my position makes me unique. But my glove control, blocking technique, vision for the pitches and leadership on the field are what make me different and stand out.
My academic goals over the next 4 years, are to achieve a 4.0 GPA. My college goal is to find a college where I can gain the knowledge I need to find a career I love. I would love to play baseball in college. This would teach me more, which you cannot learn in a classroom such as comraderey values and leadership.
Thank you for taking the time to read a little biography about me. I look forward to the next 4 years and hearing from you.
