Thank you first for taking the time to visit my profile. I am a 5’8” 140 lb freshman center fielder at Chapin High School in the small town of Chapin, SC located outside of Columbia, SC. I will be graduating in 2021.
Ever since I could crawl, I’ve been on the baseball field first by watching my older brother play then finally getting my chance to play Tee Ball when I was 5 years old. My great-uncle played for the Braves and the Rangers, so my motivation is to get the chance to follow in his footsteps one day starting at the college level. I’ve had a lot of success in the travel and rec ball arena, and had the honor of playing on a high school B-Team that went undefeated. All these successes have made me even hungrier to be a better ball player so I can help my team reach even higher goals.
I have learned that I am a very versatile player. I’ve played literally every position on the field however, I believe I shine as a center fielder. My coaches and even opposing players have commented on how strong and accurate my arm is. Last season, from center field I threw out three runners at the plate, three at third and even two runners at first base. At the plate, I’ve worked very hard on staying back on change-ups and jumping on fastballs. This has earned me the 3-4 spot in the lineup. Last year I was selected as my high school team’s MVP by my coaches.
Outside of school and travel ball, I am very involved in supporting my school and helping within my community. As a member of the Student Council, I represented our freshmen class at both District and Southeast Regional conferences where I learned important leadership skills. In the community, I assist those with special needs who are participating in athletic events. In addition, I regularly volutnteer at our local Little League as an umpire.
At this time, I am interested in a career in politics. My ideal major would be public relations, communications, or political science. The size of school and town are not critical factors to me. I prefer to play for coaches that demand 110% from their players and hold players accountable if they don’t give their all. I am a very hard worker and take pride in doing the best I can in school, on the field, and at home with my family. My personality is friendly, great sense of humor, laid back, and loyal.
Thank you again for visiting my page and getting to know me beyond my stats. Feel free to follow and reach out to me with any questions if you’d like more information.
Yours,
Gavin
