Personal Statement

My name is Wesley DePorter; I am a senior at Delone Catholic High School in McSherrystown, Pennsylvania. My primary position is catcher and my secondary position is first base, I can also play the outfield. I have been playing baseball for over ten years now, starting when I was 4 years old. I started lifting in the winter with a couple teammates at 6 AM three days a week before school up until the season started. Due to my hard work, the varsity coach told me that I had a chance to be on varsity as a sophomore. I then started my sophomore year on varsity for my high school team where I started in the outfield, but was then moved to first base, a position that I had never played before, but I was willing to learn and master the position. Subsequently, I made the All-Area second team that year as a first basemen; I batted .333 and I had the second most RBIs on the team, second to a senior. I started my junior year at catcher and I batted fourth in the line up and batted just below .300 while leading the team in RBIs. I finished a very successful 2016 summer travel season. I have since then been lifting and I will be lifting up until and through my senior season, lifting during the season to maintain my physique. I am a very coachable player and I am willing to put in the work that is needed and then some to become the best player I can be. I am still in the search for the right college fit and I cannot wait to find the right college for me. Thank you for your time to read this and I know that in the future I could be on your roster and I can help your team succeed.

  • C/1B Position Projection 05/17/2015 - Premium Video Program - Bel Air (Baltimore), MD Wesley is a skilled 2-way player (C/1B) who has a projectable build (6'1"/180). Behind the dish, he sits in well and presents a low target. He sticks pitches in the zone and frames well. Exchange is clean with accurate throws down to 2B (pop times of 2.20). Times will continue to drop with increased arm strength and a quicker transfer/exchange. At 1B, he shows active footwork and hustles into a square fielding position. He makes the plays and gathers well. With the bat, Wesley shows a balanced approach with rhythm to load. He swings on a level path, connects with some pop and hits the ball where it's pitched, driving it to all parts of the field. More lower 1/2 drive will result in increased power. This 2017 grad has skills with still time to develop.
