I am a 6’ 2” 215 lb. athletic Red Shirt sophomore who can play corner infield and corner outfield. This fall, I have entered my second season at Howard Junior College in Big Spring, Texas. I transferred to Howard College in January 2016 from the University of Dayton, where I left behind combined athletic and academic scholarships of about 60%. I made the decision to transfer to the West Texas school because I wanted to become the best baseball player I could possibly be. In my freshman season as the starting 3B at Howard College, I batted .333 with 9 HR, 10 2B, .984 OPS and 59 RBIs in 56 games. I had more walks/hbp (39) than strikeouts (31) while stealing 14 bases in 17 attempts.
This past summer, I played 3B for the West Palm Beach Barracudas of the South Florida Collegiate League. I was first team all SFCL 3B after batting .375 with 3 HR, 8 2B, 1.124 OPS with more walks (25) than strikeouts (15) while stealing 9 bases in 11 attempts. I was recently named one of the top prospects from the South Florida Collegiate League. Here is an excerpt from the SFCL write up:
“A big bat in the lineup this summer for the Barracudas, Drew Beck was not an easy out hitting .375 with 3 HR’s and 8 doubles. A big strong frame with power, Beck hit several home runs this summer 400 plus feet. Defensively, he profiles out at the next level as more of a first baseman. This past summer during his freshman year at Howard, Beck hit .333 with 9 homers and 10 doubles and 59 RBI’s. A young player with tools gives him a chance to be a solid professional prospect. “
Like my dad and Uncle Tim Beck, who is the Offensive Coordinator for Coach Urban Meyer at the Ohio State University, I attended high school at Cardinal Mooney High School in Youngstown, Ohio where I maintained a GPA of 3.6. I played three high school varsity seasons at Cardinal Mooney leading my team to the 2013 Ohio State Regional Finals for the first time in over thirty years and three consecutive District Finals appearances. I was rated by Perfect Game as the number one third baseman in Ohio out of high school. I competed in the 2012 Perfect Game Junior National Showcase at the Metrodome in Minneapolis, MN against the top rising juniors in the country. I was named to the Perfect Game 2013 Preseason Underclass All American Team.
My passion is the game of baseball. I love to hit especially when the game is on the line. I hit for average and power to all fields. I am a fiercely competitive, high IQ, serious ballplayer who will sacrifice anything to help my team win.
