My name is Matt Fox. I am a senior at Shoreham-Wading River High School on Long Island. I spent the first two years of high school in Rochester, NY at Greece Athena High School. I have been playing baseball since I was 5 years old. I’ve played ball for Little League, summer travel teams and all throughout high school. Currently, I am a starting Varsity pitcher for the Shoreham-Wading River Wildcats and I am second in the rotation. As a junior, I earned all-league and helped my team become League Champions. I was the starting/winning pitcher in the game that ultimately earned us that title. Being able to contribute to my teammates with my bat and as a quality pitcher was an amazing experience and something that I’ll never forget. In addition to pitching, I also play infield. I was the starting second baseman as a junior and will move over to third base as a senior. I occasionally play shortstop as well. My batting average is .370 and I hit 3 home runs last season.
I work hard during the off season by attending camps, working out and developing my skills through private pitching lessons from former Major League Pitcher, Neil Heaton. I also attended a baseball camp this summer at Notre Dame University where I gained valuable knowledge from the well-respected coaches there. I have acquired 5 effective pitches that I can throw for strikes – fastball, curveball, change up, cutter and splitter. My fastball velocity is consistently at 82-84 mph.
I regard myself as a leader because I enjoy helping other players with their game, especially younger kids. This past summer I was able to work with kids during a community baseball camp for young players between the ages of 8 – 14 years old to learn and improve their skills. I consider it a very valuable and satisfying experience to be able to contribute to others and make an impact on them in a game that they love as much as I do.
My work ethic is evident on and off the field. I have a 3.1 GPA and continue to work hard. I am searching for a school that fits me both athletically and academically. My dream is to play college baseball and make a positive impact on a winning team. I would be an asset to any team’s roster because I am a valuable team player, I listen and take directions well and would bring beneficial leadership skills to any program. I am interested in studying the Social Sciences in order to follow a career path that helps others. I am seeking future career options as either a teacher or a position in law enforcement. I look forward to hearing from you in anticipation of potentially extending my educational and athletic career with your college or university.
