"There may be people that have more talent than you, but there's no excuse for anyone to work harder than you." - Derek Jeter
My name is Erik Loneker. I am a Junior at David Brearley High School in Kenilworth, New Jersey. I am 6'5' and 235 lb. My primary position is a right handed pitcher. I aspire to play baseball at the collegiate level. My love for baseball developed at a very young age. I am a leader on and off the field. To be given the opportunity to play baseball while pursing an undergraduate degree in business would allow me to accomplish my two biggest goals.
Baseball has given me the opportunity to grow with the game. Early on it was a way to be a part of a team, build friendships, and learn the game. Over time, it became about the strategy. This is where I excel, knowing what pitch to throw to what batter based on runners and outs. This strength came as a result of working hard during the off season with my pitching coach.
As a high school freshman, I was brought up to the Varsity level to pitch. This experience only increased my eagerness to continue to work hard. As a high school sophomore, I was a starting pitcher at the varsity level. I pitched a complete game with 74 pitches for the win. In another game, I had the go-ahead RBI for the triumph in extra innings, winning 6-2. I also picked up the victory by pitching 4 innings, allowing an unearned run on one hit with three strike outs. while playing on my travel club team in the Triple Crown Tournament in Virginia, I pitched a complete game of 85 pitches with seven strike outs for the win against the number one seed team.
I realize the importance of academics. While my GPA does not the reflect this, I would like to state my current grades for the first marking are all A's and B's. My primary focus is improving my grades and I am dedicated in doing so.
My work ethic is second to none. Coaches have always applauded my eagerness to learn, along with my receptiveness to constructive criticism. In addition to my talent, this is what makes me a good candidate.
