My name is Anthony Lupi. I’m a 17 year-old LHP at Dover High School (Division 1) in Dover NH (Class of 2014). I'm 6’ 0”, 170 lbs. I’m the No. 1 starter on my high school and summer legion team. I’m the guy who wants the ball when the game is on the line. As a high school freshman, I played for the freshman team, and received the Defensive Player of the Year award. I also pitched a no-hitter against Keene High School.
As a sophomore, I pitched for the Dover High Varsity. We had a young team and we finished 6-12. I was 1-4 with 1 save and 1 no-decision, not great. My stats were good though, 39 IP, 25 hits, 10 BB, 29 Ks, ERA 0.89 (lowest in school history according to my coach). Just didn't get the Ws. My win was 5-2, my no decision - we won 5-3 (2-2 after 7 innings, pitched the 1st 7). My losses were 3-1, 2-0 (3-hitter), 1-0 (2-hitter), and 4-0. At our baseball banquet, I was awarded Defensive Player of the Year, the 10th Player award (as voted by my teammates), and also received NH All-State Honorable Mention.
Last summer, I played for the Dover Post 8 Jr. Legion. We finished 20-1 and went on to win the NH State title going 5-0. My record was 6-0 in the regular season and 2-0 in the state tournament going 6 innings in the game 1 win and pitching a complete game in the title game which we won 8-0.
In the Fall of 2012, I played for the elite Showcase League of New England. I led the league in innings pitched and finished 2nd in strikeouts, 38 IP, 14 BB, 40 Ks, ERA 2.72. I was also selected to pitch in the All-Star game on 10/8/12 and pitched 2 scoreless innings. My team, Seacoast Blue finished 4th out of 12 teams. Please check out my stats on the website, (showcaseleague.com).
This year, as a Dover High Junior, we finished with a 13-9 record. Our team made it to the final four in Division 1, but lost in the semifinal game. My stats were as follows: W-L 4-3, 42 IP, 32 hits, 13 BBs, 28Ks, ERA 2.16. I was named NH All-State for D1, and rec’d the Absolute Player Award recognizing athleticism, academic excellence, and community involvement. I’m currently playing summer ball for the Dover Post 8 Senior Legion.
My high school coach is John Carver ([email protected]), my summer legion coach is Dave Rouleau ([email protected]), and my fall showcase league coach is Bryant Lausberg ([email protected]).
Academically, my overall GPA is 3.75 and my class rank is 53/300. I took the SATs in June of this year, Math 540, Reading, 540, Writing 420 with a total score of 1500. I’m a founding member of the Dover High School Athletic Council and I am also a member of the National Honor Society. I also play for the Dover High School Basketball team and Golf team, and work part-time at Olympia Sports in Dover, NH.
I've always worked hard whether it's in the classroom or on the field. Playing sports taught me at an early age that it was important to have discipline in what I did, how I chose do do things, and how to manage my time. This is ingrained in me now. I don't have to be told to do my homework, I just get it done, and for the most part I don't need much help, except my Dad edits my papers. I consider myself a leader, and am very focused at what I'm doing. I play with confidence and I'm the guy who wants the ball when game is on the line. I've been told I have "ice in my veins".
Of course I would love to get drafted to play in the MLB. But for now, my goals are simple. I want to continue to do well in high school, graduate near the top of my class, improve as a pitcher, win a D1 state championship for my high school, and get a scholarship to play college baseball. If you're reading this, all I can tell you is that I'll give you all I have. As a left-handed pitcher, I am confident in my abilities. I have good command and control of my pitches (2-seam, 4-seam, curvball, change-up). Planning to add a slider and a cutter. Working on strengthening my core to help increase my velolcity.
The pitching video was done at a showcase event at Londonderry High School (NH), in June of 2012. The sequences of pitches are change-up, curve ball and 2-seam fastball, from the wind-up then the stretch. My velocity on my fastball is now at 83-85 mph.
