Throughout my whole life, my personal goals have centered around baseball. Every year, I tried to achieve improved accuracy in my pitching as well as gain speed. Through the support of my family, especially my mother, I have been given the resources that have allowed me to succeed in a sport that I am very passionate. That support included not only financial resources but an accountability to my school work. She always made it very clear that I had to succeed at my school work first, before I could play ball. This past fall season was when I found out how to be accountable to my team. My first two years in high school I had the mentality that whenever things would get tough I would begin to break down and lose my confidence. The past two years, my eyes were opened as to how I needed to hold my self accountable for the success of the team and each team member. I knew I had to focus on bringing the best out of my team with positive energy and a non-quitting attitude. I quickly found out that I was an example for many of the younger players and I could make it a positive or a negative influence.
This fall season, I believe I fully recognized the commitment required to be a leader. With a great amount of skill amongst our team, we placed first in the conference as well as winning the year-end tournament. One of my most exciting moments was when I was awarded "Most Valuable Player" as well as "All Conference Team." I realize that these awards are a reflection of a great team.
In college, I am looking for a program where I am needed athletically and also where the academics will support my learning -goals. Ever since I've stepped foot on a baseball field so many years ago, I had the longterm goal to make it to the college level. I hope to use my leadership skills and my work-ethic to become part of team where I can impact their program in a positive way.
