Kids my age nowadays view the very idea of their big dream as unattainable. The way most perceive successful people is that luck and/or talent punched their ticket. Luck is when opportunity comes along and you're prepared for it. As far as talent, that is only a part of the equation. The person who wants to attain their dream goes to work and gets the job done - it doesn't matter whether they're sick, it doesn't matter if they're sore or if they're tired. The road to success is paved with, among other things, commitment, and I am fully committed to playing baseball on the collegiate level and beyond.
In addition to baseball, I have been sailing since I was 8 years old. I have competed in numerous regattas, sailing a one/two man boat called an Opti (short for Optimist) which are approximately 8 feet in length. I also have raced boats with the class symbol known as 420's which are usually 14 feet in length and are generally limited to a crew of two. I sail primarily in the Long Island Sound at a distance of 1 to 2 miles out in various types of conditions. For the summer of 2017 I was asked by the owner of the Sailaway Sailing School in Bridgeport, Connecticut, Beth Wright, to be an unpaid counselor in training - one of only four. I was responsible for not only learning how to become a full counselor, but I taught, by myself, kids ages 7 to 14/15 how to sail. Beth's son was a competitive travel baseball player when he was in high school and she was generous enough to have had me work around my baseball schedule. Beth has also asked me to come back again in the summer of 2018 to be a full fledged paid counselor. She said she will again adjust my work schedule around my baseball. My sailing experience has taught me discipline, responsibility and to keep calm under pressure. It, like baseball, has also been a lot of fun.
