Hello, my name is Braxton King. I currently attend California High School in San Ramon, CA. This is a D1 High School which competes in the East Bay Athletic League (EBAL). EBAL is the most competitive league in Northern CA. At 6' 3" I have a "pro body" and I can play anywhere on the field. I am a natural athlete with a big arm and big bat. My goal is to play baseball at a highly competitive college where I can have a chance not only make an impact, but also earn my spot and have a chance to play in the CWS. My life dream and ultimate goal is to play in the MLB.
As a sophomore I was the starting third baseman for the Junior Varsity team. I batted 3rd or 4th in the order and always strived to be the leader of the team. I am a very aggressive and highly competitive, but I am always a positive player. My mentality on the field is to always play my best and do whatever it takes to help my team win and make those around me better. On the field I believe communication is key. I am always talking to my pitcher, infielders and outfielders to make sure we are all on the same page. While up to bat, I am always looking at the situation. I know I am a power hitter and my job is to drive in runs, but I am also looking for situations where I can move runners over and be smart about what I am doing at the plate. I am never afraid to bunt if the situation calls for it. I have power to all fields however sometimes a ground ball up the middle is all the game calls for. On the base paths I am always looking to take the next base. I am very aggressive on the base paths. I read the pitchers leg motion, I see how many times he looks over and I am constantly watching every aspect of communication between him and the catcher. I am not the fastest player, but I get great reads and I am rarely thrown out. I am a very smart baseball player.
In the classroom I have struggled with grades, but I am now on the right track to get my GPA and SAT scores where they need to be. I have been attending tutoring classes two days per week for two hours per session and I have been working with a study group as well. This past year I also got accepted into IEP in school which has helped me tremendously. I am enjoying the success I am now having in school. I am dedicated to my studies and earning a degree is something I take very seriously.
In the summers and winter I play for NorCal under Rob Bruno and Team APS under Darren Nicholson. I play baseball year round and I put pride and passion into everything I do. I have always been a short stop because I've always been the best player on my team. Now, due to my 6' 3" size, I primarily play third. I love this! I have a short stop mentality, short stop foot work and a short stop glove at the hot corner. I believe this is what makes me so good at third base. I work hard and I am always going 100%. My dad has always told me that “everything is relevant” and “the right thing to do is usually the hard thing to do”. I believe completely in this and I know what counts the most is the work I put in when no one is watching. There are a lot of days I may not want to hit off the tee or take a run, but I push myself to. Baseball is what I love and what I am most passionate about. I love this game and want to play it for as long as my body and the game will allow.
If you chose to have me as a part of your school and a part of your team you will get a die hard player and leader who will be dedicated to winning, hard work, team work and continuing the traditions of your institution. Thank you for taking the time to look over my profile and consider me a choice for your program.
