My name is David Rosas. I graduated from Bellarmine
College Prep in San Jose, California in 2011, and I am currently training at
IMG Academies in Bradenton, Florida as a post-graduate student. During my time
at Bellarmine I played varsity baseball my junior and senior years while
maintaining a 4.1 GPA. I am also a National Hispanic Scholar Award winner, and
my SAT score is 2180. Currently, I am taking two AP courses (AP Calculus and AP
Environmental Science) to continue my schoolwork and bolster my transcript but
keep my eligibility as a freshman for next year.
My high school team played in the Western Catholic
Athletic League and the Central Coast Section. We were runner-ups in CCS during
my junior year, and I started many of the games. I played for the Nor Cal ABD
Bulldogs for four years during high school. I am often overlooked because of my
size (5’9” 165lbs), but I work hard and convince my coaches that I deserve to
play and earn my spot on the team. I do not, however, confuse effort with
competence. I lead by example because I am a smart ballplayer. I keep a
positive attitude, support my teammates, and do whatever it takes to help my
team win. I run a 6.7-6.8s sixty yard dash, and I am an intelligent and
aggressive base runner. I have a good approach at the plate with gap-to-gap hitting
while staying inside the ball, and I drag bunt very well. Defensively, I am
primarily a centerfielder with excellent instincts, but I am also very versatile
and can play middle infield. I have a strong accurate arm from both the
outfield and infield with good carry and skip from the outfield.
In terms of next year, I am very open to playing at
different levels and in different locations. I am from California, but I have thoroughly
enjoyed meeting new people from all around the world during my several months
here at IMG. As of now, I intend to major in either psychology or a foreign language
(Spanish), but ultimately, I plan to attend medical school. Although I must
acquire all the prerequisites for medical school, I am very open to pursuing
other academic interests such as psychology or a foreign language because I know
that I will have the rest of my career to practice and study medicine.
The reason I took a post-graduate gap year was
twofold. The first reason is that I graduated high school at
seventeen-years-old. I have always been a year younger and have been playing against
older guys for most of my career. Secondly, as my senior year came to an end, I
could not imagine my next few years without baseball. I love the game and
appreciate everyday that I spend playing it. I am thankful for the wonderful
opportunities with which my parents have provided me, and I know that I am
taking full advantage of all my blessings. I knew that if there were ever a
chance to take time off and, “live the dream” so-to-speak, now is it. Although I
am taking a few classes, my main focus this year is training for baseball. My post-graduate
team plays junior colleges and division II teams here in Florida as well as
Academy games against the IMG varsity team. Realistically, I am looking for a
place that will challenge me both athletically and academically. It is an honor
and a privilege to attend college and receive a brilliant education, let alone
play baseball as well. My hope is that I find the place that will allow me to
continue pursuing my passions.
