Personal Statement

My name is Jonathan Worley.  I  turned 18 years old in June, and am 6’5", 210 pounds.  I have played Varsity baseball for High Tech High in San Diego since freshman year.  In 2014 and 2015, I was selected to the All League 1st Team and named Pitcher of the Year (2014) and Player of the Year (2015).  I also play club baseball with Team California Baseball and the Padres Fall Scout Team.  My greatest strength is as a pitcher, but I am also the starting shortstop for my high school team.  My travel experience includes national events in Arizona, Georgia, North Carolina, Florida, and Indiana.  I participated in the 2013, 2014, and 2015 PG Sunshine West Showcases, where I was named to the 2016 Top Prospect Lists, and was invited to the 2014 PG Underclass All American Games and the 2015 PG National Showcase.  In 2014 and 2015, I was invited to Cary, NC to play for the USA Baseball 16U and 17U NTIS Southern California Teams.  I was also honored to be selected for the 2015 Area Code Games Brewers Team (Southern California).  My greatest assets as a pitcher are my poise, clean mechanics, and command of four pitches.  I am working with a professional trainer 4-5 times a week to further develop my velocity through strength and mobility training.  My pitching coaches are Chicago Cubs scout Alex Lontayo and Matt Sisto, formerly with the Philadelphia Phillies.  I am a hard worker, both when it comes to baseball as well as my schoolwork, in which I maintain a 4.2 GPA.  I belive in giving back to my community and am a volunteer umpire and buddy for the Miracle League of San Diego and a member of SACSN Student Athlete Community Service Network.

  • Scouting Report: "Worley showed only on the mound where he has improved his abilities with a tremendous upside. Command/control are tremendous as he attacks hitters, throwing a lot of strikes as he works to get ahead of hitters through a quick tempo and polished delivery. Arm action is loose and quick, working well to the plate. Arm strength has improved, showing at a pro level as he topped out at 90 mph. Fastball showed range of 87-90 with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with late/sharp break and shows as an outstanding pitch that will get outs at the next level. He shows off his athletic abilities on holding runners as he controls the running game. Jonathan will get looks from the top collegiate coaches with his abilities on the mound with makings of a solid draft type guy in 2016."
  • Camp/Event
  • Perfect Game National Showcase
  • 6/19/15 to 6/21/15
  • Named to Top Prospect Team; Scout Blog: "Jonathan Worley is a tall and projectable right-hander from California who ran his fastball up to 91 in his first of two innings on the mound. Committed to San Diego, Worley showed off a nice feel for a three-pitch mix, each with life and ability to get down in the zone."
  • Camp/Event
  • Perfect Game Sunshine West Showcase
  • 6/13/15 to 6/15/15
  • Named to 2016 Top Prospect List and Top Prospect Team: "Worley has a strong build and power pitcher's arm action and stuff. He pitched in the 88-91 mph range and had a big breaking 77 mph slurve that overmatched hitters with its bite and consistent location."
  • Camp/Event
  • MLB Scouting Bureau Underclass Invitational Game

  • Under Armour Pre-Season All American Tournament

  • Scout Blog: "The long, lean Worley stands 6-foot-5 and was quite a presence on the mound in Arizona. He pitched off of a mid to upper 80s fastball that had great downhill plane and was consistently thrown for strikes. He showed confidence on the mound with all of his pitches and was not afraid to pitch inside to hitters – something not regularly seen in high school pitchers. He was able to add and subtract some velocity to his breaking ball that had 11-5 shape and produced some swing and miss. In addition, Jonathan seemed to hide the ball well as hitters did not react well to his stuff as evidenced by his three innings pitched without allowing a hit."
  • Camp/Event
  • Under Armour Team One Futures West Game
  • 9/27/14 to 9/27/14
  • Evaluation: "Jonathan is a tall, long RHP (6'5", 175) with an excellent pitcher's body. He has a repeatable delivery that looks very comfortable for him and has rhythm. He appears confident and in-control on the mound. Jonathan's fastball gets into the mid-80s now with more coming in the future. In addition, he hides the ball well making it tough on hitters to pick it up and allowing his FB to get on hitters in a hurry. This pitch has downhill plane and he commands it well - pounding the bottom of the zone most of the time and occasionally climbing the ladder to change a hitter's eye level. He complements his FB with a tailing change and hard CB with good bite and depth. This is a high ceiling arm to keep an eye on."

  • Coaches Evaluation: "Jonathan is a tall, slender right handed pitcher with a projectable frame to fill into. He has a high 3/4 arm slot and an easy, loose, small arm circle with a big front side. He has good rhythm and tempo in his delivery, and he uses his backside well. He is connected through his delivery and through his pitches. He could lead with his hips more down the hill till stride foot contact to use more backside. Occasionally he was underneath the ball leaving it up. When he is on top of the ball he has good down angle on it."

  • Coaches Evaluation: "Jonathan is a tall, long levered RHP with a high 3/4 arm slot. He strides online and has good direction to the target. He has a loose arm action and the ball comes out easy. He uses his legs and backside well. As he matures he will throw harder. His FB has good life to it and he can locate it. His CB has 12/6 action to it with late break. His slider gets deep with late break. His Change up has arm side run to it. He has a four pitch mix and will be very good. He has good feel."
