Dear Coach,
I envision the next 4 years being a journey of growth and development; not only on the field, but as a student as well. My set goals as I begin my freshman year are to excel on the baseball field and achieve great things in the classroom. Ultimately, I want to prepare myself for the opportunity to be a student athlete at the collegiate level. On the field, I plan to be a consistently excellent player and positive influence on the team by being a leader and team player, not only inside the batter’s box and between the lines, but in the dugout as well.
I am what you would describe as a “gamer”, a “scrappy’ player that relies on speed, quickness, hustle at all times and my athleticism. I have played organized ball since I was 3 years old, starting in pee wee league, thru little league and most recently over the last 3 plus years, travel ball and the local feeder program to El Toro High School. El Toro is a nationally ranked program and is very competitive, coming off their 2017 CIF Division 1 State Championship season. The tryout camp this past summer had nearly 30 players come out, and took place over the course of 6 weeks with emphasis on position training, strength and conditioning, field practice and games verses other local high schools. Upon conclusion of the camp I was fortunate enough to be one of only 10 players chosen for the program.
I am extremely coachable and learn quickly and I excel once directed. As I grow both physically and mentally throughout my high school baseball career, I will strive to be a key component to the infield, outfield and batting line-up. Most importantly, I will always handle myself with something that I have been raised with called “C-H-I-”. That stands for Character, Honor and Integrity on and off the field, understanding that the way I carry myself reflects on my teammates, my coaches and my entire school.
Thank you very much,
Jakob Kyle Chapman
