My name is Carson Trigueiro and I am a Class of 2017 RHP/INF at Caruthers High School in Caruthers, California. I've been playing baseball since I was 4 years old, and there's nothing I love more. As I've gotten older, I've continued to play higher and higher levels of baseball and its only fueled my passion and desire that much more. I am primarily a pitcher, and I've been working at it since I was about 10 years old. I've never been a pitcher with a ton of velocity, and that has caused for me to work really hard at developing my secondary pitches and my fastball accuracy. I believe that my biggest asset is my ability to throw all 4 of my pitches for strikes confidently in any count to any batter. When I'm on the mound, my main objective is to pound the lower half of the strike zone and locate on the corners to try and induce ground balls. However, I'm very confident in my ability to punch hitters out with my curveball and sinker. I rely on my high baseball IQ to understand how to approach different batters in different situations, and I believe this trait is what sets me apart from most other high school pitchers.
Pitching at the next level is my main priority. However, I would also love the opportunity to play in the field in college. I started every game at second base on my varsity team my sophomore year, and my junior year I took over at third base. I am extremely comfortable at both positions, where I have made a total of 2 errors in my 2 combined varsity seasons. At the plate, I was not always the strongest hitter. I spent the summer after my sophomore year putting in lots of time in the cage, working on my swing and my approach at the plate. My hard work paid off in my junior season, as I saw myself hit .372 for the season above .500 in league play, as well as lead the West Sequoia league with 30 RBIs. I love being at the plate with runners in scoring position, but it's my ability to execute in all kinds of different situations that sets me apart. I can execute a hit and run, move a runner over with the bunt, or foul off pitches and work the count to land my team a lead off base runner. Once I'm on base, I'm very good at making reads on the base paths and capitalizing on mistakes.
In my household, academics have always been very important. I have maintained a 4.0 GPA in high school, as well as passing multiple AP/Honors courses. My hard work in the classroom reflects my commitment to playing baseball in college, as well as the work ethic with which I approach the game. The most important thing to me when looking at a school academically is whether or not the school has my desired major, and how strong that program is within the school. My family is very important to me and being within proximity to them would be nice, but I am willing to play anywhere in the country. School size is not something that will have a very large impact on my decision either. Whether it be D1, D2, D3, NAIA, or JC, my decision will come down to what school offers the best fit for me, with a coaching staff I believe can help me grow and thrive as both a player and an individual while affording me the opportunity to play high level baseball, no matter where that may be.
It has been my dream to play college baseball since a young age, I can't thank you enough for taking the time to read my personal statement. I hope to hear from your school in the near future!
