Personal Statement

12/19/2011 Our team wrestled in the Battle in the Big Horns Tournament this past weekend.  It was a dual tournament and we won!  I pinned through the tournament and got to wrestle in the best of the best where I faced a great wrestler from Cody WY.  He had a great chin wip but, I pinned him in the second period.  I was named outstanding wrestler of the upper weights.!

12/13/2011 We wrestled a dual in Laural MT.  It was a very exciting match-up.  They are the reining Montana clas A champs and only lost one state placer to graduation last year.  We pulled off a close win 46-39.  I pinned my kid.

12/11/2011  I had a couple of tough losses this weekend and only placed 5th at the Rapid City tournament.

12/03/2011  We had our first dual and tournament last week.  I went 8-0 with 7 pins and got my picture in the paper.  http://www.powelltribune.com/component/k2/item/9053-panthers-top-field-at-powell-invite

11/04/2011  Preseason Nationals didn't go as well as I'd hoped,  I went 5-2 and missed placing by one round.  The main reason for going was to get some mat time with some really good wrestlers and I got to wrestle 3 or 4 All Americans.  (I pinned one of them).  That part of the plan worked out well! There are a couple of things I need to work on before I go to Cedar Falls in the spring.

10/17/2011  Preseason Nationals is alnost here and it is looking to be a great touney  at #160.

06/22/2011  It's finaly time to go back to school!  I've decided not to play football this year.  It was a hard choice, I love football and have been playing since I was 8 years old but, the playoffs run into pre-season wrestling and I want to hit a few big events before wrestling season kicks off.

05/20/2011  I haven’t updated in a while.  I had a pretty disappointing high school state finish.  I lost my first match and had to wrestle through the wrestle backs for 2 days to finally finish 3rd.  I took 2nd in our USA Greco tournament and finally pulled off a 1st place finish in our USA freestyle tournament.  I took first at AAU’s folkstyle world championships  and went 3-2 at Virginia Beach.

I am currently practicing with Coach Urbach once or twice a week and with anyone else that I can get in the wrestling room.

I’ve decided that I can be competitive at any weight but, I’m not going to give up an ounce to anyone I don’t have to anymore.  Look for me to wrestle 152 or 160 next year instead of 171.

01/27/2011; I have lost to Jace Jenson of Buffalo, WY twice now. The first time was at the Cowboy invite in Milescity MT and again this last weekend in Buffalo at the Buffalo duals. Thank goodness there is someone in Wyoming to push me. Jace is in the eastern region and I am in the western region so, the 3A state championship will be great! I had hoped that I would find some competition if I bumped up a couple of weights and I have. Between Jace and Kaleb Hoyt our unofficial all state championship will be a barn burner as well! 01/10/2011; I wrestled at the Tom LeProwse Invitational in Bozeman Montana this weekend and lost in the finals to Chris Yocum of Butte. It was a tough loss. Chris is a good wrestler but, I should have beat him. He is exactly the kind of wrestler I knew I would have problems with, He's a good, BIG wrestler cutting hard to wrestle 171s and I'm really a 52 pounder. 01/07/2011; Lastnight I wrestled Kaleb Hoyt (one of the two guys that have beat me this year) and won in overtime. He's a great wrestler but, he doesn't have my coaching or the quality wrestlers to practice with that I do. The duel was supposed to be our JV vs their varsity but, Coach Urbach let me wrestle. The whole varsity team with their parents drove to the duel to support us! 12/21/2010; I wrestled in the Battle in the Big Horns this last weekend and went 7-0 winning the best of the best at 171. I also wrestled my first 189 match ever and won. 12/17/2010; I've wrestled two tournaments and a duel at 171 so far this year. I took second in both the tourneys. My first loss (Powell invitational) was to the winner of last year's unofficial all class state tourney and my second loss (Rapid City invitational) was to the kid that won the Virginia Beach nationals last year. Several former PHS wrestling stars as well as some awesome former college wrestlers are coming to our practices to, help coach me I guess? It's more like they've come to school me. I am getting plenty of matches in our wrestling room to say the least. I've been focusing on just staying in good position at all times. If I get caught by these guys that are bigger and stronger than I am, I'm in trouble to say the least. My change to strength training hasn't shown any results yet, of course. I expect that by our state tourney my maxes should significantly increase and I hope to have to monitor my weight. Right now, I can weigh in after dinner holding a sandwich and drink! 11/12/2010; It looks like I will be wrestling 171 this year. Our team is stacked in the middle weights and Coach Urbach asked me to bump up a few weights to make the team more competitive. I've been wrestling heavy since this spring so I could develop better skill sets against opponents that are stronger than me but, I have been doing endurance training with the expectation of wrestling 152 this year! I have just switched to strength training to put on few pounds of muscle. It will be nice to weigh in with a sandwich in my hands though. 10/06/10 update; It looks like I got a little national recognition, USA Wrestling Magazine gave me a pre-season honorable Mention at 140# Summer 2010 update. I wrestled a few camps this summer. The North Idaho camp was the toughest. I bumped up a few weight classes to get some competition, (I wrestled 189 at North Idaho) my true weight was 165. My only losses were to an awsome kid from Washington in the take down tourney. He was a 215 lb State champ. May 2010 update: I just found out that Brett Hunter 2X NCAAII national champion will be our new assitant coach next year! I will have someone to wrestle with everyday that can beat me, (for now). Wrestlers from all over the area can now come practice at our open mat. Spring 2010 update. I tried out for spring tennis for the first time this year. I made the team and made varsity before the season was over. (I never played tennis before). March 2010 update, I just won my first state championship and my second regional championship with a 35-5 record. I am currently coaching my club team and running open mat for high school wrestlers that want to continue sharpening their skills. I am trying to get approval from the school board to allow wrestlers from around the region to come practice with us. Some of the college wrestlers from North West College here in Powell are already taking advantage of the opportunity. (08/10/2009) I have wrestled 6 months out of the year from the time I was 6 years old until I was in 8th grade. Since 8th grade I wrestle all the time. I love to wrestle. I wrestled starting varsity 130lbs last year (9th grade) on a returning state champion team. Our team had a 18-0 dual record, won Wyoming's 3A west regional, setting a new points record. Our team was the 3A state champions for the second year. I was the West regional champion and took 5th place at state with a record of 31-9. I am 5'9", my football weight is 165lbs, I should wrestle either 145 or 140 this year. I would like to go to college somewhere in the Midwest preferably at a school that has a good wrestling tradition. I do have a certified learning disability but, I have not used that as an excuse to not perform well academically. I receive no extra help from the teachers or aids nor do I get any extra time for assignments I will be in advanced placement classes next year. I only mentioned the disability on the NCSA web site because it asked. I will need financial aid to wrestle while I'm in college. My parents are great people but they wont be able to help much in the money department.
