My name is Daniel Jacob Mitchell and I am a senior at West Scranton High School in Scranton Pennsylvania. My goal is to earn an athletic scholarship to attend school for wrestling as well as receiving a top notch education. I plan on earning a scholarship to a division 1 wrestling program and I do not plan on letting anything get in my way and stopping me from reaching this goal.
I believe I will be an asset to any program that I am a part of. I have an incredible work ethic and a heart that is matched by no one. I am a natural born leader because I let my actions speak for themselves. I don’t yell a lot unless I have to; I prefer to motivate my team by pushing myself passed my own limits to show them that they can do anything they set their minds to. I find new limits each and every day, I find that pushing myself to my breaking point and even beyond have molded me into someone that will stop at nothing in order to reach my goals. I encourage my teammates to do things that they thought were impossible by doing those things myself.
In the classroom there is no difference, I isolate myself and challenge myself in order to be the best I can possibly be. I believe my attitude in the classroom encourages my fellow classmates to challenge themselves as well because I have many classes with my friends and we are very competitive with each other. I am currently enrolled in AP Physics and AP Calculus and I am excelling in both classes by receiving 95’s in the second marking period. I take pride in my grades and plan on improving my 3.7 GPA to a 3.9 by the end of the year.
Aside from the wrestling room and the classroom, I also challenge myself and excel in the off season. This past summer I accomplished a major goal of mine that I have been striving for the past 3 years. This goal I speak of was qualifying for Fargo Nationals, a greco roman and freestyle national tournament in Fargo North Dakota. It was very difficult to reach this goal because my freestyle/greco club closed due to low interest and the next club I went to didn’t focus on greco enough, which was crucial to me, being that it is how I was able to qualify for Fargo. I ended up practicing about an hour or so away with my friend in Tunkhannock. I qualified for Fargo by placing second in the North East Regional tournament at East Stroudsburg University. When I got to Fargo I was overwhelmed, the atmosphere was incredible and I was there to wrestle with the best wrestlers in the nation. I ended up finishing the tournament within the top 25 wrestlers in the nation with a 3-2 record, although that was great for me to be a top 25 national wrestler I was in no way pleased. Finishing top 25 at Fargo in greco roman has only made me hungrier to do better, I want more, and I will get more and I will not stop until I am the best.
