When I was 8 years old I stepped on the mat for the first time, and unlike most wrestlers today, it was for Jiu-Jitsu, not wrestling. Most wrestlers are starting Jiu-Jitsu after they finish their careers, yet I am the exact opposite. I have been competing at the national level for Jiu-Jitsu and have trained for the last 8 years. Towards the end of middle school, a lot of people pushed me to try wrestling, and I thought "Why not, what the worst that could happen". The moment I started wrestling I knew that it was right for me and that I could be very good if I pushed myself. Even with my little wrestling experience, my Jiu-Jitsu background helped me rack up 23 wins my freshman year and 26 wins my sophomore year. These last two years helped me see all the potential I have in wrestling. I have been training all year round now for wrestling and hope that even though I am behind most wreslters technique wise, college coaches can see my true potential to succeed in this sport.
