I became interested in wrestling at the age of 4 when my older brother became involved in the sport. I went to every one of my brother’s meets and was taken in by the competitiveness and emotion of each match. I couldn’t wait to get started! I began wrestling at the age of 5 and have been devoted to the sport ever since. This sport has taught me how to compete with discipline and integrity. Wrestling has also showed me that I am a very determined person and I should always set high standards. These qualities also relate to my academics in high school. I have had a strong understanding of math throughout my academic career and have excelled at advanced placement math courses. I plan to use this background to help me achieve a degree in finance.
My junior year as a wrestler was filled with highs and lows. I was determined to maintain a 20+ pound cut in weight and was highly successful throughout the regular season. I was the second junior in Chopticon High School history to achieve 100+ wins. However, the maintenance of such a cut became overwhelming in post season and I was unable to compete at regionals and states. This set back has made me even more focused as a wrestler my senior year. I have set the bar high this year and am determined to be conference and regional champion, as well as a state placer. As a team captain, it is also my responsibility to encourage and lift up my teammates. In short, I am a competitor at heart and will push myself and others to the limit in order to achieve our goals.
