I didn't start wrestling until the 8th grade. I had been in martial arts from the age of 4 and had reached the highest levels and decided to pursue wrestling. I love it. Besides my Christian faith, it is the most important thing in my life. I love practice, tournaments and matches. Any time I can get on the mat I feel at home. I take pride in being the hardest working wrestler in the room. I feel like wrestling is the ultimate character builder.
I was ranked in the Top 10 in Colorado all year at 160 and beat many of the top contenders in 160 and 170s. My main wrestling partner placed at state at 182. I regularly beat him at practice. Most of the coaches in my conference as well as my own coaches were convinced I'd win state this past year after going 37-5 and undefeated in conference. In regionals I lost a close match to the eventual state runner-up and then inexplicably lost the next match and didn't qualify for state. I learned a hard lesson in that second match. My opponent actually asked me not to hurt him and I went in to that match way too confident, thinking I could just sleepwalk through it. Suddenly the match was over and I lost 5-4. It was the toughest moment of my life.
I'll win state this year. After three full years of wrestling and taking up freestyle, my technique has started to really come together. Two of my coaches wrestled D1 and have told me I have what it takes to wrestle D1. I wrestle at the Mile High club and have taken on many current D1 wrestlers who often tell me I'm the physically strongest wrestler they've ever come against and should wrestle D1. I still have a huge learning curve because most of my opponents have wrestled much longer than me. I'm still learning but am dominating almost every match. I had trouble finding good film because most of my matches end in early falls.
I will work as hard as it takes to be as good as I can at whichever college I get to wrestle for. I know that I'll have to earn and keep a spot and maybe sit for a few years, but I'll make any practice partner as good as he can be because I'll work him as hard as he can go because I want to be as good as good as I can be. I will win state this year and I want to win a national championship in college. Thank you for considering me.
