My name is Ellie Westrate and I am a junior setter from Sun Prairie, Wisconsin. I attend Lakeside Lutheran High School in nearby Lake Mills. I played setter on my club teams for each of the last 4 years. It’s my dream to play college volleyball after I graduate in 2018.
I started all the way around on junior varsity my freshman year as a setter in a 6-2 offense and right side hitter in the front row. We had a great year with a 13-1 season. Named as one of the captains, it was a great start to my high school volleyball career.
My sophomore year I played on my Lakeside Lutheran Varsity team as starting 5-1 setter. We had a successful season as conference champs and an 11-2 record.
My junior year I was again on varsity at LLHS, playing setter in a 6-2 offense. Our team had a great season, winning our conference, regional, and sectional and making it to the state volleyball tournament in Green Bay. What a terrific experience! We lost in the semi-final but what an incredible memory and I'm so proud of our team for making it to the state tournament.
This club season I am playing at Wisconsin Select on the 17 Black team. I am very excited for the upcoming club year. I love the girls that are on my team, we work hard but also manage to have a lot of fun. I also have terrific coaches in Coach Shay and Coach Schlomer at Wisconsin Select and I look forward to learning more from them throughout the season.
I love volleyball and work hard to develop my skills, strength, and consistency. I’m also a team player and leader, maintaining my composure when emotions run high and encouraging my teammates. Playing at the Wisconsin state volleyball tournament this year was the biggest stage I've yet to perform and experience and I am proud of how I, and my team, performed in that arena.
Although I am not yet sure what I would like to study, I do know that I want volleyball to be a big part of my college experience. I enjoy competing at a high level and will continue to work hard on the court and in the classroom to prepare for a college opportunity. Thank you so much for reading my profile!
