My name is Alexis, but I go by Lexi, and I have been on the varsity volleyball team for the past two years at my 4A high school, Aubrun Riverside in Auburn, WA. My freshman year I primarily played defensive specialist and was the back-up setter. This year I was the starting setter. I am a 4.0 student who recognizes my grades are ultimately my key to success.
I am entering my sixth year of playing club volleyball, the past two years I have been the starting setter on teams that have qualified for nationals, University Place Volleyball Club and 253 Elite. I am playing for 253 Elite U-16 this season. I am a strong all around player and a hard worker willing to do the things it takes to help my team succeed. I am currently the team captain for my club team. I love leading my teammates and having them look at me in a tough situation and count on me to lead us through it.
I aspire to lead by example on and off the court. I believe honesty, integrity and hard work always pay off! I do strength training 5 days a week, speed and agility training 3 days a week and one setting lesson a week in addition to my team practices.
I play the piano and take weekly lessons! I enjoy music and look forward to piano being a part of my life for years to come.
None of this, however, would be possible without the love and support of my family! I live with my Mom, Heather, and my Dad, Gary. I have an older sister, Sarah. She is married to Lincoln and they are expecting their first baby in August. I also have an older brother, Randy. He is married to Kim and they have a two year old daughter named Brooklynn. I also have awesome grandparents and extended family who are a big part of my life. I wrote the following poem last year and I have included it because I think it paints a clear picture of how I see myself.
Where I’m From...
I am from Puyallup,Washington.
From my first day home.
To my first snow.
From my parents that loved me, and my siblings too.
I am from summers in Idaho.
From the afternoons at the lake.
To the evenings barbecuing on the porch.
From playing with my cousins.
To spending time with my grandparents.
I am from Augusts’ at Lake Roosevelt.
From the feeling of the warm sand at the sandhill falling through my toes.
From the rush of plunging down to the water after jumping off a thirty foot cliff.
I am from God.
From my savior whom I love.
From him leading the way to get me where I am today.
I am from family.
From accepting me and all that I love.
From giving me love whenever I needed it.
And I am who I am because of where I’m from.
I would love to play for a team where I can make a positive contribution as a player and a person.
Attending college is a necessary and exciting step in achieving my ultimate educational and career goals. My dream is to work in the medical field, but I am currently undecided on what specific subject I want to major in. As far as an ideal location for me to attend college, I would be happy to go anywhere that meets my academic needs and has a coach that recognizes my talent and thinks I can make a positive contribution to his/her program!
