Marissa Powell '10 Recruiting Profile

I fell in love with volleyball at a young age after watching my aunt play in high school and at Purdue University. I started out playing club volleyball as an outside hitter and consistently lead my team in many categories. I am 5'7 inches tall so when I reached high school I switched to Libero (club also) where I was a 3-year varsity starter for my high school team and was a team captain all 3 years. I also was captain 4 out of the 5 years playing for 2 club volleyball teams. This year (senior) I was honored to be chosen the (5A) 1st Team All-State Defensive Specialist. I'm an extremely focused, coachable player. I wear the title as team leader proudly and will do whatever it takes to contribute to the success of my team. I realize I'm starting the recruiting process late, but I still want to pursue playing competitive volleyball and am open to exploring opportunities at all divisions. Ideally, I would like to be at a program where I can make an immediate contribution. I haven't decided on a major yet but want to attend a school where I can obtain a degree with outstanding academics as well as a great volleyball reputation. Financial assistance may have to factor into the college selection process as my family has gone through some financially challenging times as of late. Nevertheless my goal is to get a great education and to be able to enjoy doing what I absolutely love the most....playing volleyball! Outside of volleyball I have a singing group with my sister called 'Geniveve'. I am a model. I help coach a Jr. high volleyball team and coach a volleyball summer camp for 5th to 9th grade youth. What I am most proud of is volunteering at a childrens hospital for 3 hours every Sunday.
