My dad was a coach, and he introduced me to sports in elementary school. Volleyball was sponsored through the Boys and Girls Club starting at the fourth grade. We formed a team and my dad coached us. Ever since then I have expanded my level of play by playing in club and attending camps. My focus has been setting, but I have also worked on the other skills of the game. This came in handy my sophomore year of high school when my team needed me to play middle, a position I had never played before. Looking back, I am surprised I adapted so quickly to the position. Just because I did not play my primary position, setter, I did not quit. I kept working to be the best middle I could, and continued working on setting. Through playing volleyball, I have learned that I stay calm under pressure, and always try to keep a positive attitude. I am a team player, and I help my teammates by giving them positive remarks and tips.
Being a three sport athlete (volleyball, basketball, and track & field) through high school has taught me how to balance a busy schedule. Homework and practices have taught me to be responsible and have good time management. Being in three sports and playing multiple positions has taught me to be open to anything. Being in sports has also taught me to forget about the previous mistake and focus on the next moment in life. Becoming a student-athlete is my goal because I want the chance to play four more years. Academics is my top priority, and I will study and do all that I can in the classroom to earn high grades and graduate.
