My Name is Demi Nicole McInnis – I’m a senior at Cypress Ranch High School. I’m a 5’ 7” Libero / DS and play for the Texas Tornados 18 Mizuno team in Houston, Texas. I also play beach volleyball for RS10VBC. I love playing beach volleyball as it just comes very easy and natural for me. I grew up playing volleyball and I have been playing for about 11 years now. My mother played at Houston Baptist University and continued staying in involved by playing club, beach tournaments and coaching high school and Junior Olympic club teams. My dad also played club and beach volleyball. So, as you can see, volleyball is not just a sport in our family, it’s a lifestyle. School, family and church are the priorities in my life, but my absolute passion and what really drives and motivates me, is Volleyball -- indoor, outdoor, it doesn't matter! I don’t go too many places without my volleyball, just in case I might get to pepper or play. My dream is to play volleyball in college, while getting a college education. I would like to play at a higher level school, but honestly, it’s not really about where I go or what level it is, as long as it’s a good fit for me and my educational goals and I get to play the sport I love. I’m an extremely focused and determined person and to accomplish this dream, I will work my butt off every single day. I want to prove to my team, my coaches, my school, my club and to myself that I have what it takes to not only succeed but to excel.
I have always been an outside/ rightside, but now that I am competing at a higher level I realize that being a 5'7 outside hitter isn't going to cut it. I made the decision to switch my position to libero as a freshman, so the switch was late but not TOO late. I absolutely love being libero and the challenge it brings! I’ve always been quick and really good at reading plays and anticipating shots, so the libero position comes very natural to me. Every year, my coaches tell me…that I'm their most consistent, dependable and versatile player. They could put me anywhere and I could get the job done. I have had two coaches refer to me as the team “toolbox”. Having played outside, rightside, DS, libero and setter -- I am a utility player with strong platform skills and consider myself to have a high volleyball I.Q.. I guarantee I have the mind set and skill set to perform and succeed.
I played my first full season of beach volleyball in 2016. I fell in love with beach and would like to pursue a college that has both indoor and beach if possible. I started out as the newcomer and became one of the top players in the club. I have an amazing coach in Riley Salmon, former 3x USA indoor volleyball Olympian and gold medalist. I ended the Junior Beach Tour 2016 season ranked 2nd in State in ages 18, 10th in state in 18U and 87th in the nation. I received 2 National Bids for USAV Championships in Milwaukee but was unable to attend because of a family emergency.
My career aspiration is still undetermined. A part of me wants to become a geriatric physical therapist and go into geriatric rehabilitation! What can I say, I absolutely love old people! I would like to be a part of helping seniors get back home and back on their feet after surgeries or accidents. I also am a very good artist and I might want to do something with my art talent. I also love marine biology and just being on or near a beach would be amazing for the opportunity to pursue that.
I am a very good student and have received honor roll or distinguished honor roll every year. I know what’s important and what I need to do to accomplish my goals. I am a hard worker and a great team mate. I consider myself and have heard from coaches that I’m very “coachable” and able to turn corrective criticism into improvement. Help me follow my dream, and I promise to perform to the best of my ability, on and off the court.
