My aspirations are to attend a strong academic school and to be a high-impact player and starter for all four years there. As a left-handed setter with strong hitting skills and all-round play, I would like to be on a team competing at a level high enough - and with a group of players motivated enough – to keep pushing me to excel for the success of the team. A positive and disciplined team environment is important to me, as is the quality of resources to help me develop as a player.
Two of my strengths are coachability and athleticism. I have a very high work rate and I thrive under pressure. Until a few months ago (when I had to make a choice of sports), I was one of only 40 athletes in Ontario training in a junior national soccer training feeder program to Canada’s national women’s teams. The standard of character, athleticism and commitment to succeed was very high. I know what it takes to get to the next level in high performance sport and have shown that I can achieve success at that level. I carry this experience with me every day into my volleyball training and performance.
Currently, I’m the co-Captain of my Club volleyball team despite being a year younger than my teammates. I lead by example both in my work ethic and my respectful and encouraging demeanor. I am positive and vocal on the court, which I think is important for a setter.
I am a very strong student (GPA 3.9) and a recognized leader at my high school, where excellence in and out of the classroom are valued. Although the typical path for high achievers at my school is Ivy League schools, what’s most important to me is finding the best quality all-round university experience possible for myself in terms of academics, athletics and student life.
